The Boxcar Blues Band is now hosting the regularly scheduled Open Mic Sunday Blues Jam at The Green Turtle in Whittier.

Each week, GR and Johnny, plus their choice of a special guest Drummer and Bass Player, open the stage to all-comers. Everyone is welcome to join them on stage to jam the Blues.

Just bring your axe, sign the sign-up sheet, kick back with a beer and join in the fun. We provide the PA, vocal mics and electrical outlets. We provide the drum kit but ask drummers to bring thier own sticks. The provided keyboard rig is a fully-weighted 88 key Studiologic SL-990 (for piano) and a Roland XP-30 with the "Keyboards of the 60's and 70's" module installed (for those great Hammond/Leslie and Rhodes/Wurly sounds). We also provide a bass rig, as well as a Marshall rig for guitarists (many of our guest guitarists bring their own rigs and you are welcome to do the same). Harp players should bring their own amp/mic but are welcome to play through the PA.

The Green Turtle is a bar and Chinese food restaurant that provides entertainment including Karaoke 7 days a week, with live entertainment Thursday through Sunday.

The proprietor, Willie, personally greets all his guests and patrons, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly with laughter and camaraderie as the order of the day.

The ever growing audience, and the constantly changing musicians that come in to jam are from all walks of life and the music spontaneously created on stage is always charged with excitement. The jammers are young and old alike and have included some of Southern California's best as well as amateurs who are seeking to play with those more experienced. Everyone is welcome!

The Green Turtle is easy to find (about 1 mile east of the 605 freeway on Whittier Blvd.) and has ample parking. As well, the cuisine is superb, the bar is a full bar and there is no cover charge. So, whether you're a Blues musician or one of its fans, the Open Mic Sunday Blues Jam at "the Turtle" is a great evening of spontaneous creative entertainment and fun for all. See you there!
